Trauma remains
the third leading cause of death in the United States and the
leading cause of disability in young Americans. Advancements in
trauma systems, treatment protocols, technology and training have
made an impact on this challenging problem, but injury still remains
the greatest silent epidemic of modern society. This will be the
fourteenth consecutive presentation of the Southwest Regional
Trauma Conference, but the goal remains the same: to provide the
most current information on trauma and its management to all health
care professionals working to help combat this major health problem.
This year's conference will provide sessions on multisystem, pediatric,
cardiothoracic, pelvic, maxillofacial and genitourinary trauma
as well as forensic crime scene analysis and telemedicine. Three
concurrent sessions are offered throughout each day so participants
have a variety to chose from at any given time.
This conference has been organized under the leadership of the
Southern Arizona Trauma Network (SATNET) and in conjunction with
the Division of General Surgery and Trauma at the University of
Arizona Health Sciences Center and University Medical Center.
