Program Description
This program is designed to provide insight into the challenging world of both
pediatric and geriatric emergency care. The topics range from pediatric head
injury to the the biological and emotional changes that come with aging. The
faculty represents a diverse group of experts in emergency and trauma care.
Join us for a day of interesting and enlightening discussions surrounding
emergency care of children and the elderly.
Program Objectives
At the completion of this program the participant will be able to:

Identify at least two indicators of a closed head injury in a child.

Compare and contrast communication styles across the pediatric age spectrum.

Discuss the frequency of pediatric trauma in the United States.

Describe why elderly patients on beta-blockers are unable to generate a rise
in heart rate.

List at least three changes that will occur in healthcare as the population
ages.

Discuss the three most common injuries that occur to the pediatric pedestrian.
-
List at least two changes that occur in the cardiovascular system when the
body ages.
-
Describe the treatment options for a child with a brain injury.
-
Name at least three common drugs that can affect the elderly patient's response
to shock
