Practice Guidelines are important tools for active trauma programs. Use of
guidelines may:
-
Ensure consistent approaches to complex trauma problems.
-
Set a standard for quality improvement programs.
-
Educate staff in trauma practices.
-
Document trauma protocols for external reviews.
-
Get everyone reading from the same song sheet.

We provide the framework, the editing, and the publishing. You make the
changes that fit your program and we do the rest. The manuals will have your
hospital's name, your specific protocal...and you will be the author!
This manual was developed by the staff of the trauma centers in the Southern
Arizona Trauma Network (SATNET). This organization is a unique collaborative
effort of the two regional trauma centers, community hospitals, and
pre-hospital providers of Tucson, Arizona and the surrounding rural area.
John B. Fortune, MD
is the Medical Director of SATNET and has long been interested in trauma
guidelines as a unifying approach to trauma care centers.
Steven B. Johnson, MD
is the Associate Medical Directory of SATNET and directs the surgical
intensive care unit at University Medical Center.
Daniel G. Judkins, RN, MS, MPH
is the Trauma Coordinator at University Medical Center and has been
instrumental in the use of epidemiological studies to develop programs for
trauma prevention in the region.
Amy Sisley, MD
(not pictured) is a trauma surgeon with interests in ultrasound applications
for trauma and the prevention of domestic violence.
